چکیده

During the last years the European Centre for MediumRange Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) released new editions of the wave model WAM. The latest model version has been evaluated on both wave height and spectrum in close and shallow seas as well as in open oceans. The purpose of this work is twofold: First to discuss some evaluation results concerning the model performance and secondly to study the sea state characteristics in North Atlantic Ocean in a case of extreme wind and wave conditions by means both of satellite measurements and WAM forecasts.

20 Years of Operational Forecasting at Oceanweather

The rapid evolution of numerical wave prediction models over the past three decades has been closely linked with the desire to improve operational wave forecasting systems. For example, the P-T-B directional spectral wave model (Pierson et al., 1966), supported initially to develop new wave climate data for improved ship design, was implemented at the Fleet Numerical Oceanography (FNOC, now FNM...

Quality Assessment of Envisat Asar Wave Mode Products Based on Regional and Seasonal Comparisons with Wam Model Outputs

RESUME Since january 2003, ASAR Wave mode products have been systematically monitored. Quality assessment reveals that calibration issue still remains unsolved and unexpected computational error arising on WVS products. Furthermore, systematic regional and seasonal comparisons with collocated parameters of the numerical wave model WAM as provided by ECMWF exhibit a global good agreement with WA...

Global operational remote sensing andmodelling of ocean

An overview is given of current operational methods for retrieving two-dimensional ocean wave spectra from near real-time ERS-1 SAR wave mode (SWM) imagette spectra. The SWM data quality and performance of the WASAR algorithm are assessed. Sensitivity analyses and validation studies are performed using two-dimensional NOAA buoy data as well as TOPEX and ERS-1 altimeter-derived signiicant wave h...

Wind-wave modelling aspects within complicate topography

Wave forecasting aspects for basins with complicate geomorphology, such as the Aegean Sea, are investigated through an intercomparison study. The efficiency of the available wind models (ECMWF, UKMO) to reproduce wind patterns over special basins, as well as three wave models incorporating different physics and characteristics (WAM, AUT, WACCAS), are tested for selected storm cases representing...

Analysis of SLG-WAM Evaluation of Definite Programs

SLG is a table-oriented resolution method that combines the deduc-tive database and logic programming paradigms. SLG is applicable to de-ductive databases since it terminates and has polynomial data complexity for programs with nite models. In terms of the logic programming (and non-monotonic) paradigms, SLG computes the well-founded model for non-stratiied programs, and has been extended to co...
